Wrestling Set (2022)

A quick wrestling set, with a couple of thousand fans in attendance. Made this over the course of a few afternoons and I'm pretty happy with it - it should look great when I get around to rendering the project out.

Nou Mestalla (2021) Construction Diary: Part 1

July 28: The first day of the competition. Fortunately for me, the start of the competition came while we were in lockdown, so I ended up having more time to work on it. While I waited for the regulations and that to be clarified and finalised, I worked on the surrounds. This is the model I made of Dama Iberica statue next to the stadium.

July 28: Later on, working on some of the other buildings.

July 29: Progress on the surrounding buildings. I was super pleased with the V shaped building next to the roundabout (have forgotten the name) as that was such a unique shape to work with. Decided to see how the buildings looked in the main model for this shot.

July 30: One more building taken care of.

July 30: Getting work done on the other sides. Both of these sides were really basic and straightforward to model.

July 31: The final buildings were modelled, so I copied them into the main model and got ready to start work on my design.

July 31: The reversed view. Felt really happy with how they came out, and knew there would be a lot more to come from them when they were textured and lit up.

August 01: Started work on the seating bowl. This was an absolute slog, as so many of the sections of the stadium are different lengths, so it wasn't possible for me to just copy seats from one section to another. A lot of manual work through here, which was not fun. Some of the buildings visible in the background highlight how important getting them modelled was.

August 02: Copied the lower tier into a new file and started extending the stands down from their current location to the pitch level. I actually ended up redoing the seating from the earlier image as I figured out how to do it simpler.

August 02: Finished up the lower tier with some of the media seating and VIP seating at the front of the main stand.

August 02: The reverse view

August 02: Working on the pitch level. With the lower tier modelled, I was able to go and fill in the space between the pitch and stand. I just stuck an orange material down on it and figured I would go back and do something more with it later.

August 02: Looking down at the work so far.

August 03: Getting to work on the middle tier. At least this was (semi) symmetrical so it was a quicker job.

August 03: The completed middle tier.

August 03: Copied into the main file

August 03: Another view

August 04: A look at the VIP boxes tier

To be continued...

Bean Centre (2022)

Images of my Bean Centre model. I'm going to start out by admitting I am not a fan of it. It started out as an attempt to recapture the magic of my Adler model but I started building the environment up too much before working on the actual shop, which was the wrong way around. Still, I did get to make the shop itself, and I was really happy with that. I scoured the 3d warehouse and found low-poly models of food, vegetables, meat and baked goods, before making texture maps for each set and filling out the shop. I'm eager to make use of those models again in the future, and hopefully that happens on a model I have more fun with.

In my head, this was designed to be a gentrifying former industrial area.

Nou Mestalla (2021) - the renders

These are renders I made of my Nou Mestalla model for mStadia Designers Cup 7, which was the winner. I'm finally getting around to posting these today as it's one year to the day that it was announced the winner. Looking back on the project, there's a lot of things I would do differently now compared to what I did here, but I am still very proud of this one. To be honest, working on this was a cathartic experience for me as I was struggling with a recent death in the family. I'll add more posts soon where I go through my design process which will elaborate on why I did the things I did with it.

Take care until next time
