Nou Mestalla (2021) Construction Diary: Part 3

August 13: After a couple of days off, I got to work on the concourses. Green walls along the back with the structures further towards the centre of the concourse

August 15: Making more progress on the concourse

August 17: The upper tier completed. Large videoboards at both ends, slightly curved seating with planter boxes filling in the vacant spaces. Herbs and plants grown in the planters are able to be used through the stadium restaurants.

August 17: Another view. Absolutely loved seeing this come together. This was really the point that I thought I had something nice and special.

August 18: A small day for me. I got the stairs connecting the concourses to the seating bowls done.

August 19: Getting the underground stuff done. This actually took quite a while to get right, and the whole thing was an approximation anyway.

August 26: Getting the roof done. This was a very basic mockup as I wasn't sure exactly how I wanted it to look, but I knew the basic shape wouldn't change. The main problem with the roof is there was not a lot of space to actually suspend it from, as it had to be freestanding and the large western plaza is finalised. Roof supports needed to be situated to the north and south instead, which necessitates a light roof.

August 26: A view of the outside. The 'walls' are reminiscent of a bats wings, furthering that lightweight feel.

August 26: Aerial view. The outer truss around the roof will end up with solar panels lining it.
