Nou Mestalla (2021) Construction Diary: Part 4

August 26: The final image from the roof supports construction.

August 27: Looking at the lighting with the roof on the stand

August 27: The exterior of the venue.

August 27: Another view

August 27: Getting the landscape in. The concept was to fill the site with trees, with a stream surrounding the stadium. The original Mestalla had one at the end of the stadium, and I thought that would be a nice addition to the new venue.

August 27: Filling it in

August 27: Another view

August 27: Just the landscape model.

August 29: Small bit of work today, but I got the wheelchair spaces done.

August 29: The upper level

August 30: Starting work on the crowd model.

August 31: Another tier done.

August 31: A more up close view

August 31: Looking at the crowd inside the stadium

August 31: Another view

August 31: The whole site

September 02: I had wanted to get the crowd done before the end of August but didn't make it. Still, I was close and got the entire crowd done a couple of days later

September 02: Looking down at the whole site.

Racing test stand (2022)

Just a bit of test work today. I used Artisan to mock up a quick racetrack corner and I'm pretty pleased with how the slope came out. Secondly, I have been reworking my crowd model - they now have slightly smaller heads and the seated model is now completed. I made this test stand to show that off - the first four rows are made of my seated crowd model, the next four rows are a mix of my standing and seated crowd model, and the rear four rows is the standing crowd model. Far better than before

Nou Mestalla (2021) Construction Diary: Part 3

August 13: After a couple of days off, I got to work on the concourses. Green walls along the back with the structures further towards the centre of the concourse

August 15: Making more progress on the concourse

August 17: The upper tier completed. Large videoboards at both ends, slightly curved seating with planter boxes filling in the vacant spaces. Herbs and plants grown in the planters are able to be used through the stadium restaurants.

August 17: Another view. Absolutely loved seeing this come together. This was really the point that I thought I had something nice and special.

August 17: Stylised up-close view of the videoboards. One very large board, with two side boards angled away

August 17: A look at the upper tier on its own.

August 17: Another view.

August 17: One of the views I wanted to render. Loved the natural feel of this.

August 18: A small day for me. I got the stairs connecting the concourses to the seating bowls done.

August 19: Getting the underground stuff done. This actually took quite a while to get right, and the whole thing was an approximation anyway.

August 24: Finishing the underground stuff.

August 24: Another view.

August 24: Underground VIP waiting area.

August 26: Getting the roof done. This was a very basic mockup as I wasn't sure exactly how I wanted it to look, but I knew the basic shape wouldn't change. The main problem with the roof is there was not a lot of space to actually suspend it from, as it had to be freestanding and the large western plaza is finalised. Roof supports needed to be situated to the north and south instead, which necessitates a light roof.

August 26: A view of the outside. The 'walls' are reminiscent of a bats wings, furthering that lightweight feel.

August 26: Aerial view. The outer truss around the roof will end up with solar panels lining it.

August 26: Vines hanging off the roof supports

August 26: Top down view of the roof.

Tropical Island (2022)

Recently got Artisan, the plugin that improves sculpting within Sketchup. Had a little play around with it while getting used to the tool and made this tropical island, inspired by my Fury Islands model. Pretty happy with how it turned out. I had a lot more control making sandbars and that which was cool. A lot quicker than the default tools were too.
