This house conserves energy in a number of ways. Firstly, 8 inch thick walls ensure that much of the heat inside the house is trapped during the winter. Secondly, the use of deciduous trees ensures that the house is well protected from excessive heat during summer, but warmed up during winter. Thirdly, the use of large windows ensures that much of the house can be naturally lit, minimising artificial light use.
