August 31: Working on the stage. I needed a little break mentally at this point, so I worked on a stage for the venue. It's nothing particularly special, but I enjoyed the lighting effects that it produced. If I rendered it with the new Vray, this could have been so much more impressive.

September 4: Apologies for the dark image. The layout of the site means that the stadium is located on the western side of the site, with a large, open space free on the east. Rather than leave that to go unoccupied, I designed a commercial building to sit on the southeastern corner of the site. The building runs along Bonifraterska and Konwiktorska. The LED strips located along the sides of the building were previously designed to be used as part of the main facade, but I thought they were better suited here.

September 5: The new roofing structure on the main grandstand is installed. It's based on the roofing structure that is presently on the site - I did not intend to replace that. The main support truss is somewhat hidden behind the large advertising boards. You can see the commercial building in the background of the image.

September 6: The same view, but with the new roofing structure on the other stands. You can see the commercial building in the background of the image. Several small improvements were made to the venue at our around this point - fencing was installed around the venue, nets were installed behind the goals, standing rails were installed in the home end.

September 7: I finally fixed the floodlights. I'm much happier with this profile, though I feel I needed more light intensity.

September 8: With not long to go until I finalise the project, I started adding the people to the site. This is the view as I did that on the northern end of the main stand.

September 8: And the rest of the venue. There was a little issue with this render - I inserted the people in the wrong spot - if you look at the areas to the right of the aisleways, you'll see what I mean.

September 9: A day render with the crowd in place. It finally looks like a football stadium.

September 12: At this point, I was starting to think about the smaller details. Here I have installed the guardrails, and the LED hoardings are about to be installed. I also updated the seating pattern on this stand - POLONIA is now included across the stand.

September 14: To give a little bit more life to the home end - a bunch of flags.

August 18: Working on the VIP parking lot, located to the west of the main grandstand. The Y shaped beams are inspired by the front of a building near where I live. The lighting was inspired by a photo I saw of a parking lot in Singapore. It looked cool so I used that as inspiration.

August 21: Texturing the facade. I intentionally opted for a rougher feel to the facade, so I chose panels and stone. I was happy with it.

August 23: The first night test of the facade lights. It was pretty painstaking putting the lights in, as the facade consisted of roughly 100 rectangular lights. For that reason, I only ever showed the facade lit up in yellow (a neutral colour in terms of the site), though it could conceivably be lit in any colour. At this point I still hadn't fixed the lighting patterns.

August 25: I installed the scoreboards at each end.

August 25: A view of the main grandstand. I started to set up the material settings at this point - you can see a reflection of the scoreboard in the glass.

August 27: Work on the stadium gym, located on the northern end of the main grandstand. With the demolition of everything inside of the facade, there was spaces available at the north and south ends to build a gym and a 25m lap pool.

August 27: Just an interior view of the venue, looking towards the north. Not a lot special about this one.

August 28: The changing rooms. These are actually located underneath the main stands, and are designed to have a bunker-like feel. Everything about the stadium was designed to be "rough".

August 29: Massing models were added to the site. A little fun fact: while I was modelling these, I watched Dr. No for the first time. This started an obsession with the Bond film franchise. By the middle of October, I had watched all of them. And to think, that all started because I was sick of struggling with James Bond in trivia!

I'm going to do something a little bit different with this series of posts. I'm going to take you through the process of developing my model for Stadiony Polonia Warszawa, which I modelled between July 16 and the end of September 2016. I'll add dates and comments for each of the images, and soon will upload Part Two, and likely three and four as well!

July 31. By this point I had made a number of the major design decisions for the venue. I opted to retain the existing roof, as well as the main facade which I planned to give a little bit of a facelift. The design statement spoke about the need for the venue to provide an integrated "whole" to the venue - this saw me produce a single tier, wrapping around the venue with the exception of the away stand. The most rows were in the southeastern corner of the venue, with the number of rows decreasing towards the north and west. This enabled the venue to run nearly parallel to Konwiktorska.

July 31 - the first interior rendering. At this point I didn't have a great idea of the interior branding of the venue. The main stand was the very first thing modelled on the site, as that gave the initial scale for the site. From there, the eastern stand was modelled as a large block, without the decreasing number of rows at the northern end, and then trimmed back into its final form. The same principle applies with the southern stand.

July 31 - corporate boxes went in. This view gives a good angle of the southern stand. Natural light is able to illuminate much of the concourse areas - there is transparent glass as part of the facade.

August 2 - Initial consideration given to site roads. OB Van space is assigned. I made a deliberate attempt to maintain the existing site access point at the northern side of the venue.

August 2 - The initial view of the facade.  I originally planned for a wooden facade, but this would later be replaced by steel. The facade seen here would eventually be reused as part of the facade on the commercial building. At this point, I had not modernised the existing site facade, but the basic idea for it was already floating around in my head.

August 3 - the first interior lighting test. Floodlights went in, but I was not entirely happy with the lighting pattern. I would end up amending that later on.

August 6 - the first view of the concourse at the southern end. You can see the natural light permeating the venue.

August 8 - The away stand was modelled. This is a view from the northeastern corner of the venue.

August 16 - most of the site amenities are added. A fun little render with the physical structure of the facade removed. This was actually my favourite render of the entire project for some reason. I just enjoyed the naked feel of it.

August 17 - the facade starts to take shape. This is a view of the southern stand. I reused the same style of window as used on the main stand. This gave the concourse an open and airy sort of feel. Large pillars supported a "tie" that ran right the way around the outside of the venue. This lined up perfectly with part of the main stand. Lighting bars are attached to the top and the bottom of this tie that lights up the facade at night.

August 17 - The structure of the facade was completed. This view gives a good idea as to how the facade runs parallel to the street.

August 17 - Added to the stadium proper. Those large white faces that you see on the walls in this and the next image I had no ideas for. It was unfortunately just there. It didn't really face anything and I wasn't too sure what to do with it until a fair bit later.

August 17 - a slightly higher view than the previous rendering. Each of those trees lies off the plot I had to work with. It gives you an idea though as to how tight the stadium is to the edge of the plot there.

Hey guys!

So I haven't been very active lately. I know. I do have quite a few backed up projects to share. They'll be coming shortly. I also have about 30 projects that I've started and aborted over the last two years. An idea hits me and then I abandon it. One day I'll finish some of those. Maybe.

Anyways, I'm working on my second racetrack since Malta, which I was proud of. This one is going to be a little different. It's completely flat (I know that's cheating) but it's a nice layout and some of the scenery will more than make up for it. That's part of it above.

I've got a really great house model to share - and it all started as a rendering test for a pool texture. I've got another house design - this time more of a mountain lodge feel. There's a couple of office buildings, a stadium, and of course, my SDC2 and SDC3 models, that I will take you through in a lot more detail than I have before. Hopefully they should be up over the next couple of days.
