Tutorial: Painting irregular surfaces
We've all had to do it at some stage, and it is a right pain to do. However, sketchup has an inbuilt feature that makes it really quite easy. This tutorial will show you how to paint irregular objects easily, and make something that looks like this
Irregular surfaces tend to curve in several directions, such as the example surface below which will be painted. If you just click on the face of the surface, you'll end up with your texture not pasting properly and the surface being covered with fragments of your texture.
So the first step is to draw a rectangle in front of the surface you wish to paint. It should be the size of the largest edges of your irregular surface.
Now, paint your texture onto the rectangle
And use the position texture tool (Right click - Texture - Position) to make sure it fills up the entire rectangle.
Now, once you've done that, right click on the rectangle again, and go to texture - projected.
Now, select the paint bucket tool once again and hold down ALT while clicking on the rectangle. Then, click on the irregular surface. You should see something like this
Erase the rectangle and any leftover lines, and the job is done.

City Hall
The first issue to deal with for any city is finding a place for the council to meet - a city hall. Above is the work on the city hall (inspired by a council building near where I live) which will eventually grow a garden roof. The plot contains two council worker buildings as well as the city hall.

City of Louisville
The debris has been cleared from Louisville. With the rubble cleared, work began on restoring the roads. With cars banned, buses ran along the north/south routes, with trams running east/west. Temporary bus stations and metro platforms were erected in the city to shuttle construction workers in and out. It remains to be seen what impact this will have on the city.

Louisville Opera House render
Tried a different rendering technique to bring out the colour and details more. Do you rather this or the photorenders?

Louisville Opera House
I had proposed to upload this tomorrow, but I don't think I will be finished in time. So this might be Friday, I don't know. Really starting to take shape, with the Louisville flag raised. For those who don't remember the flag of Louisville, it is below.

Suncorp Stadium: the story begins
Not a lot to see yet. But the worst-kept secret of all time is finally revealed (mainly because I told countless people. Never trust me with your secrets). Suncorp Stadium is my summer project (and if I manage to find some time, the 'Gabba might get done too).
Louisville Opera House
This is the Louisville Opera House. The colour is a bit screwed up in the final render especially. For a first ever go, I think it is coming out OK.

Upload schedule
OK, no images today, but a message. Over the coming days, I will be uploading my models made in the past few months. The schedule is as follows.
December 2 - AVICA Park (stadium only)
December 3 - AVICA Park (stadium and the landscape)
December 4 - Hindmarsh Stadium
December 5 - Haladay Road
December 6 - Louisville Racecourse
December 7 - Louisville vehicles
December 8 - Louisville Opera House
Please note, I have not uploaded any images of Louisville Opera House yet, but it is an older-style building for a competition, measuring 180m by 130m. It is my first attempt at a design of this type, most of my work is modern. Details need to be sorted, but I think it came out alright for a first go.
And remember, take care and have fun :)
